This unique examination arrangement of the NIOS learning system enables students to request for an examination whenever he/she feels prepared for the test. The nodal Government agency initiated the ODE system since 2003 as a major step of operational flexibility. The idea of freeing examinations from the stress of completing the syllabus in a scheduled duration is an extremely novel concept.
Primarily, the Government implemented the ODE in the secondary level. Following the significant positive response, NIOS implemented the ODE protocol at the senior secondary level from October 2007. The benefits are available in 6 subjects, Political Science, Home Science, Mathematics, Physics, Hindi, and Business Studies.
The advanced online ODE system allows students to appear at a randomly generated question paper from the computer. The digital database already consists of a diverse question bank, classified according to subjects. A candidate can access the question paper just by a click of the mouse. Since 2010-11, NIOS operates 100% in a system of online admissions.
Students can register themselves directly or seek assistance from regional centres or accredited institutions. The NIOS arrangement provides courses in vocational training besides the seondary (class X equivalent) and senior secondary (class XII equivalent) programs. Out of school learners and school dropouts can immensely benefit from the comprehensive virtual education system operated by the Government of India.
